Judy Rebick withdraws support from Elizabeth May

On Rabble, Judy Rebick renounced her support for Elizabeth May and the Green Party, based on Elizabeth May's very moderate comments on the so-called right to abortion.

If you had said that you personally oppose abortion but you support a woman's right to choose, I would have been fine with that. Instead you said that a woman's right to choose, something tens of thousands of Canadian women fought for for decades, was trivializing an important issue. It felt like a slap in the face.

Since you have so little respect for me or for the women's movement which mobilized for so long to win this hard-earned right, I hope you will understand that I ripped up the cheque I had written to the Green Party and you can no longer rely on me for support.

So, in other words, if you don't support a woman's abortion in every case, no matter how stupid and frivolous the reason, you are not truly pro-choice. You do not support women.

I am positively delighted at this action. If anything it shows the extremism of the feminist movement, and how completely out of touch with the average Canadian these people are. Sure, most Canadians support legalized abortion, I grant you that. But Elizabeth May's comments represent a mindset that is closer to the mainstream than that of Judy Rebick's. Most Canadians attribute some value to the unborn child, and see some need to protect him.

These people see none.

If anything, it'll further the cause of fetal rights by raising a debate. This will surely inspire comment. And that will, in turn inspire discussions about abortion and, by extension fetal rights.

Poor-choicers want this discussion suppressed, because they legally have what they want: complete abortion on demand. They think it's completely unacceptable to raise the spectre of legally protecting ANY unborn humans, for any reason whatsoever.

This all goes to show you, that all you have to do to advance the cause of fetal rights, at this stage, is mention the issue. Raise it, raise it, and raise it some more.

The discussion will happen.

Pro-lifers, please, get a blog. Get on to a message board (See a list here). Talk about it. Don't shut up. Talk about fetal rights, and how unborn children are part of the family. Assert their equality. That will make people think.

We will win this fight in the end. I am certain of this. It may take ten years, it may take a hundred, but we will win the fight for the rights of unborn children.
